About

Why this site exists

CompanionGrade was built to fill a gap in how AI companion platforms are evaluated. The market has grown crowded, with eleven major platforms now competing on features that range from conversational depth to image generation to voice interaction. Most existing coverage either repeats marketing claims or relies on single-session impressions. This site applies a consistent, documented methodology to every platform, producing grades from A+ to D that can be compared directly.

The editorial scope includes best-of lists, alternatives, head-to-head comparisons, and explainers. All content is produced for adults only.

How the grades are made

Each platform receives a letter grade based on six weighted criteria: conversation (28%), memory (20%), images (16%), customisation (14%), value (12%), and voice (10%). These weights reflect what paying users consistently identify as the factors that determine long-term satisfaction. Letter bands are fixed, meaning the thresholds for an A, B, C, or D do not drift to accommodate a weak field or a strong one.

The full methodology is documented at /how-we-grade.

Where the evidence comes from

Scores rest on a shared evidence base. For every platform, two sources are examined: the platform's own documentation and the pages that rank on Google for the relevant category. This material is distilled into twenty-seven scored dimensions across seven pillars. Each dimension carries an evidence note and source citation, displayed on every review as a detailed scorecard.

No platform pays for a score, a rank, or a listing. Some links may carry referral tags; these never affect a score.

Who writes it

Founding editor Scott Dommett leads coverage. He spent two years inside the AI companion and generative adult-content category as a paying user of most products now reviewed on this site. That experience informs the criteria weights, the scored dimensions, and the editorial priorities. Reach him via editor@companiongrade.com or the contact page.

Corrections and updates

Scores are re-checked quarterly against the same evidence base. Any changes to a platform's grade or dimension scores are logged on the review page with a dated note. Readers can track the evolution of a product's standing over time without relying on archived versions.

What we will not cover

Any platform permitting content involving minors or non-consensual imagery of real people is excluded and reported. This is non-negotiable. The site serves adults exclusively, and platforms that fail to enforce appropriate boundaries forfeit any consideration for review, ranking, or mention.
