Are AI girlfriend apps safe? What to check before you pay
Safe as in “will this app harm me” is your call. Safe as in “where does my data go and what does it cost” has real answers. They differ across platforms.
What is stored
Everything. Memory requires storage. Assume every message, image and voice note sits on their servers. Staff or contractors can read it in principle. Training use depends on the privacy policy; policies vary.
Five things to check
- The privacy policy on training and third parties. “Improve the service” means training.
- Account deletion. Does it erase chat history or merely hide it.
- Billing entity and cancellation path. Some bill through processors with different names. You will search for the charge.
- Free tier card requirements. A card on file with auto-renewing trials produces the most refunds in this category.
- Age verification. None now means rule changes later.
Money
Use a cancellable card or virtual card. Annual plans cost less per month and rarely refund. Credit systems, used by some platforms, obscure per-conversation cost; our value score docks them for this.
