Content filters in AI companion apps: strict, partial and none

We tag every platform with one of three words. That single word carries the full weight of the policy.

Strict

Romantic and explicit content is blocked. The filter bites hard. Character AI and Talkie live in this bucket. The price is false positives: harmless scenes trigger the wall, and the character shatters into refusal. This is the single most common reason people hunt for alternatives.

Partial or opt-in

Explicit content unlocks after you flip the switch. Usually costs money. Usually demands age verification. Candy AI, Nomi, Muah, and MyAnima operate this way. The switch does more than unlock skin. It rewires what the model will agree to write. The same platform feels alien before and after.

None, or explicit by default

Adult content runs from the first message. Kupid, Krush, HeraHaven, OurDream, MyBot, YumeAI, and Darlink. Limits still exist. Every platform on our list bans content involving minors or real people. We drop any that does not.

What no filter does not mean

It does not mean lawless. It does not mean the model obeys every command. It means the platform will not barge into an adult scene between consenting adult characters.
